Working in the Netherlands

If you live in another country and want to work in the Netherlands, you will need to complete certain formalities.

Residence permits

If you are a non-EU national and want to work in the Netherlands you need a residence permit. The rules and requirements will depend on your individual situation. The Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) is the government body that issues residence permits.

Employment permits

People who employ staff from outside the EEA must apply for employment permits for the individuals in question. The Centre for Work and Income (CWI) is the government body that issues employment permits.

Working (temporarily) with a European Professional Card (EPC)

Are you a pharmacist, physiotherapist or nurse in an EU member state? And would you like to work in the Netherlands temporarily or on an incidental basis, using your foreign diploma? In that case you can apply for an EPC. To do this, visit the website of Europe.

Would you (ultimately) like to settle in the Netherlands? Then you may only work here if you are BIG registered. Do you know in advance that you ultimately want to settle in the Netherlands? In that case you can also request BIG registration immediately.
