Working in the Netherlands

Foreign nationals may have to meet further conditions before being permitted to work in the Netherlands. If you do not hold the nationality of one of the European Union member states, you will require a Residence Permit (‘Verblijfsvergunning’). In some cases, you will also require a Work Permit (‘Tewerkstellingsvergunning’).

Residence Permit
Residence Permits are issued by the Immigration and Naturalization Department, which makes all relevant decisions. The precise rules and requirements will depend on your personal situation. For further information, see the IND website.

Work Permits are issued by the Centre for Work and Income (CWI), which makes all relevant decisions. Note that the Work Permit must be obtained by the employer, not the employee. For further information, see the CWI website .
